Charleston
Tower/Approach Control is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
medium level air traffic control facility located at Yeager
Airport (CRW) in Charleston, WV. The agency currently
employees 20 Air Traffic Control Specialists at CRW. The National
Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) is the exclusive
representative of the
controllers.
The
controllers at CRW handle about 120,000 aircraft operations per
year, including passenger, military and general aviation
aircraft. CRW is classified as a level 7 tower and radar
approach control. The airspace surrounding CRW is Class
"C" airspace. Our runway
configuration consists of crossing runways, with the longest
one being 6302' long. Yeager Airport currently has
projects in progress to straighten taxiway Alpha and to create
runway safety zones at the end of each runway. There is 1 radar
site located at Yeager Airport, an ASR-8, which feeds the
Automated Radar Terminal System ( ARTS IIE) computer
system. Charleston approach control airspace extends from
Yeager Airport 60 miles SE, to 24 miles NW, 43 miles NE and 40
miles SW from the surface to 10,000 feet MSL (Mean Sea Level). We
have numerous satellite
airports within our airspace with Beckley
and Summersville WV airports
being the busiest. For detailed information
