Laidley Tower's

The tallest building in West Virginia was in its final stages of construction in the summer of 1984. Work on Laidley Tower's exterior of smoke-blue reflective glass began after the final steel beam was installed in June. At 18 stories, developers had to obtain a waiver from the Kanawha Airport Authority to build so tall a structure. The largest law firm in the state - Jackson, Kelly, Holt & O'Farrell - had already leased five floors of the $23 million office building. The tower looms over St. George Orthodox Church and its gold onion domes. (Photo from Charleston Newspapers files)
